5 Simple Ways To Help You Stay Active On Vacation (Without Hitting The Hotel Gym)
In this post I’ll share with 5 simple ways to help you how to stay active on vacation, WITHOUT spending hours in the hotel gym or obsessing over exercise.
If you are anything like me, the last thing you want to do when you go on a vacation or trip, (as much as you enjoy working out), is to have to hit up the hotel gym every day, especially if you are only there for a short period of time.
You want to spend that time exploring somewhere new, sightseeing or just taking time to completely relax and have a mojito (or 2!)
You don’t want to be stressing about exercise.
In saying that, if you are ALSO anything like me, you enjoy moving your body and feel great when you do!
Therefore, you’d like to know how you could incorporate some movement into your vacation, without overthinking it or having it interfere with your plans.
Here are 5 of my favourite ways to keep my body moving when I’m abroad, without having to even STEP FOOT in the (probably sweaty & small) hotel gym.
1. Start your morning with a leisurely walk
One of my favourite things to do on a vacation is start the morning with a walk.
It can be a short or a long one, whatever you feel like.
It’s a really nice start to the day, taking in the surroundings and just getting your body moving gently.
I normally like to walk just after breakfast, before getting ready for a day of exploring or relaxing.
Depending on what kind of vacation you are on, you could walk along the beach promenade, or grab a coffee and explore the city streets as it wakes up!
2. Cool off in the swimming pool
If you have booked a vacation in a *sunny* destination, chances are there will be a swimming pool in your hotel.
Swimming is another really gentle way to stay active when you’re away, that can be incorporated into your day without it feeling like you are doing a strict workout.
Now I’m not saying swim 1000 lengths every afternoon haha – but if you are having a pool day, why not get in the water and do a couple of laps every now and then, even just to cool off!
Just make sure you haven’t had too many cocktails! πΈππΉ
3. Find a hiking trail
Another thing I like to do from time to time on a vacation (depending where we go!) is to find a hike nearby to do.
I personally pick shorter, easier hikes (as I’m not a pro-hiker!), and if there’s a viewpoint at the top – then even better!
You can use Google or a site called AllTrails to find walks or hikes close to where you are staying, and plan one or two into your week!
Not only will you feel great for getting moving, but you’ll feel super accomplished when you finish your hike AND you might even get to experience some breath taking views.
4. Do a quick workout in your room or balcony
If you want to keep up with your workouts while you’re away, but don’t want to hit up the hotel gym – a quick bodyweight workout on your balcony or in your hotel room could be the answer!
Simply choose a handful of your favourite bodyweight exercises and create a circuit that you can do in 10 or 15 mins. It doesn’t have to be a long workout to get you feeling it!
Examples of exercises you could do are : squats, push-ups, incline push-ups, glute bridges, reverse lunges, planks, mountain climbers & so many more!
You could even pack a few resistance bands (looped or long) in your suitcase to give you more options!
(Just don’t pack any dumbbells or you’ll have no room in your suitcase π!)
5. Get out and explore!
Honestly, one of the best things to do is just get out and explore where you are!
Whether that’s wandering the streets close to your hotel, or driving to a nearby town to explore there!
You’ll be killing two birds with one stone – movement & sightseeing!
Take breaks from exploring by checking out local museums or just stopping for a spot of lunch and a drink!
Conclusion
I hope this has given you some ideas of how you can stay *reasonably* active on your vacation, whilst still being able to enjoy relaxing and exploring!
What are your travel plans for 2024?! Let me know in the comments! π
