Home Workout Essentials For Small Spaces
1) Exercise Mat
First up, I would definitely recommend getting yourself an exercise mat.
If you are doing any stretches or movements on the floor, a mat can just make things a bit more comfortable for you -especially if you are working out on hardwood or tiles.
Not only that it, but it will protect your floor from any wear and tear too!
The great thing about an exercise mat as well, is that once you have finished your workout, you can simply roll it up and pop it away in a cupboard or even behind the sofa! Plus there are so many cute colours to choose from!
2) Long Resistance Bands
Resistance bands are just one of my FAVOURITE pieces of equipment when it comes to working out at home.
They really don’t take up much space at all, are super easy to store away and I also find them great for travelling with too.
One thing I love about these bands, is that they are so versatile, and you can do SO MANY different exercises with them that train your whole body – lower, upper and core!
There are various different resistance levels to choose from as you can see with the one I’ve linked for you below, so think about what kind of exercises you might use them for and then make sure to pick that option accordingly!
3) Mini Looped Resistance Bands
You might often see these called ‘Booty Bands‘, but I cringe at that phrase so I won’t be using it haha! 😂
Again, like the looped resistance bands above, you can do loads of different exercises with these mini bands that will help strengthen your whole body and that you don’t need a tonne of space for.
I’ve linked my personal favourite mini bands from Amazon, they’ve lasted really well & if you are anything like me – you love the pastel colours!!
They come as a set of 5 too, so you have all the different options for resistance!
4) Dumbbells
If you are keen on building some serious strength at home, and you have the space/storage – then I would 100% suggest getting yourself a few sets of dumbbells!
They are probably my favourite piece of strength training equipment, as you can use them for leg exercises, upper body strengthening and core work.
‘NEOPRENE’ style dumbbells are great for a home workout space, as they are slightly more portable and compact than some larger dumbbells which are designed for gym use.
5) Kettlebells
Kettlebells are another great piece of workout equipment to consider for your workout space.
They come in a range of different weights, just like the dumbbells, and they can add real versatility to your workouts.
Some of my favourite exercises with the Kettlebell include: Kettlebell Swings, Kettlebell Goblet Squats & Kettlebell Windmills!
6) Ab Wheel
Although you can only really do one exercise with the ab wheel – namely the AB WHEEL ROLLOUT – it’s a really in-expensive bit of kit to buy and can be really effective for your core routine!
7) Slam Balls
Slam Balls can be used for all kinds of strength exercises, as well as your conditioning workouts!
I especially like slamming them on the ground – great for stress relief 😂!
I wouldn’t say this is an absolutely essential piece of home gym equipment to have but fun to use!
8) Jump Rope
If you are looking for an affordable way to add more cardio to routine, a jump rope could be the perfect way to do that!
You can use the jump rope in your warm-ups or as a conditioning exercise at the end of a workout.
9) Yoga Blocks
I’ve added Yoga Blocks in here as I find them not only a useful tool to adjust certain yoga exercises, but also find myself using them during workouts occasionally as well.
They’re inexpensive and a handy tool to have in your home workout space!
10) Aerobic Step
Honestly, who knew a step could be one of the best pieces of fitness equipment! 😂
I personally love using the stepper for exercises like – Incline Push Ups, Step-Ups or Bulgarian Split Squats, but can also be great for cardio moves too!
11) TRX Suspension Trainer
This is a piece of equipment I’ve always raved about – the TRX Suspension Trainer.
It’s an awesome piece of kit and again you can perform a multitude of different exercises on it to help strengthen your entire body! In fact, you could do a full workout on it no problem!
It’s super easy to use indoors, you simply attach it over any door using the anchor, and then you can fire away with your exercises!
12) Sliding Disks
Sliders may not look like much, but they can really add more creativity an versatility to your home workouts.
They’re perfect for beginners, and there are so many exercises you can do with them.
The slider is essentially an ‘unstable’ surface, and in-turn will challenge your balance and stability with every move! Plus, they’re so handy to pop in your suitcase or carry-on bag when you go travelling!
13) Dip Bars
I purchased DIP BARS recently, and find them a handy addition to my home gym.
They are specifically good if you want to do more ‘Calisthenics’ style exercises, such as different dip variations, rows and even push-ups.
14) Exercise Ball
Just a really handy addition to your home gym – great for wall squats, hamstring curls & lots of other exercise variations!
Conclusion
I hope that I was able to give you some ideas of what sort of fitness equipment you can use at home, which won’t take up too much space!
If you have any questions about each piece of equipment, or would like to know further examples of exercises you can do – let me know in the comments! 🙂
